DIY Spider and Insect Repellent
Supermarket shelves are full of products to keep creepy-crawlies out of our houses. But, for the those of us who strive to create and maintain eco-friendly and chemical-free homes, poisonous bait, sticky glue traps, and household insecticides often contain chemical ingredients that are harmful to humans — just check out those warning labels.
Don’t fret. This recipe is your new solution for maintaining healthy boundaries with nature’s critters! It’ll deter ants, spiders, moths, fleas, and even mice — and all while smelling SO nice!
Blend a mixture of 2:1 water and white vinegar. Add 10-12 drops of any of the following essential oils. You can’t go wrong here — just follow your nose!
- Peppermint essential oil (this oil can be bothersome to pets)
- Lemon essential oil
- Sweet Orange essential oil
- Citronella essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Tea Tree essential oil
Gently shake the mixture before each use. Mist all doors and windows of your home, as well as corners, baseboards, and every dark nook and cranny — anywhere spiders or bugs might be making their homes. Re-apply weekly or as needed.
