How to Launder Your Flour Sack Towels
Whether you’re cooking in the kitchen or dusting the shelves, your towels are bound to get dirty! But don’t fret — these towels were made to last and are easy to launder.
Place your flour sack towels and other soiled dish towels in your washing machine with one full scoop of Oxygen Whitener. Give the towels a long, hot soak in the washing machine to help whiten and lighten the fabric.
Next, pop your flour sack towels into the dryer on high heat. To lightly infuse your towels with scent, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your Wool Dryer Balls before starting the dryer.
If your towels have some extra stains that you’d like to tackle, apply a pretreatment to the stained area. You can mix up a dilution of All Sport and water to treat the stain. Launder as normal.
Expert Laundering Tips:
- Avoid bleach. This damages the natural fibers of the cotton and can lead to holes and tears.
- Avoid fabric softener and dryer sheets. These products leave a filmy residue on the fabric that builds up over time and prevents the towel from being able to absorb liquids.

Tips to Increase the Absorbency of Flour Sack Towels
It can take some time to work in your new flour sack towels, but we have some tips that can help to speak up the process! Washing your new towels helps to soften stiff, folded fabric.
Put your new towels in the washing machine with 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar. Run the rinse cycle. When the water is drained, add one half cup of baking soda. Run the towels through one wash cycle on hot. Dry your flour sack towels in the dryer — and don’t forget to add your Wool Dryer Balls to soften them even further!
Did You Know?
Did you know that 544,000 trees could be saved annually if each US household cut back by one roll of paper towels per year? Every day, over 3,000 tons of paper towel waste is produced in the US alone. As these paper towels decompose, they produce methane gas — a leading contributor to global warming.
By switching to flour sack towels, you can reduce your household use of paper towels. These hyper-absorbent towels can be relied on to dry hands, dishes, spills, and more.
When it comes to protecting our environment, every little bit helps!
